Designed for an Auckland Regional Council lakes thermocline program these buoys are proving popular with many clients.
Our design provides a low profile buoy for rapid deployments and payload changes. The design incorporates a dual seal waterproof instrument enclosure with ample room for dataloggers comms and batteries. The kit comes complete and ready to deploy with mounted solar cells, seals, antenna, and connectors.
The buoy is vandal resistant as it has no accessibility to the payload without a key and all external bolts are tamper-proof. The antenna is mounted internally and being hepta-band covers all global radio and cellular (legal) comms frequencies. You should check comms strength before deployment. The payload cover also has an inspection port. This allows access to a switch or observation of LEDs.
Seals include silicon o-ring and option grease seal. The grease seal is integral and only requires the addition of silicon grease. This is to prevent field situations where deployment could not be possible when the o-ring is damaged.
Our design has a membrane protected open vent. The microporous expanded polytetraflouroethylene (ePTFE) membrane continuously allows the free passage of gases and vapors, equalizing the pressure differential between the enclosure and ambient before it builds to the point that a seal is compromised. By allowing hydrogen gas to diffuse through the membrane vent, the concentration of hydrogen inside the case is kept below potentially explosive levels.
