Alpha™ and Beta™ Differences
These bottles are very similar in use and appearance. Both are Van Dorn samplers that come in the same sizes and in PVC and transparent acrylic. The differences are in the end seals and latex closing tubing. These differences are enough, however, to make the Beta™ better suited to sampling trace metals and other chemical sampling.
The blue polyurethane seal used in Alpha™ bottles may leach some mercury. However, it is durable and long-lived. The white ASA plastic seal used in Beta™ bottles does not leach mercury, but it is not as durable.
The Alpha™ black latex tubing is highly resistant to decay from sunlight and water. However, it may leach a very few heavy metals. The Beta™ amber latex tubing is less resistant but does not leach as many contaminants.
• Wide open mouth does not restrict water flow
• Ideal for collecting microzooplankton
• Blue seals of durable, flexible, high-grade polyurethane resin with attached safety line
• Stainless steel Twin-Pin™ trip
• Kits include bottle, case, messenger, line
• Bottles only and bottles with cases available
Choose transparent acrylic or more durable opaque PVC. A thermometer can be mounted onto acrylic Alpha™ bottles for reading the water temperature at time of sampling. This sampler is not for series sampling.
